Physical Forces and How to Fall in Love with Them Contact Improvisation Intensive Arambol, Goa, India 18 to 26 February 2025 Facilitator: Ivan Gurianov Timings: 10 am to 2 pm 18,19 + 21,22 + 24,25,26 February This intensive can be called fundamental-advanced. The main idea of it is to gather most of the general concepts and technical principals of contact improvisation and go through them one-by-one: starting with examples of simple movement patterns which include each principal and then learning more and more challenging and exciting patterns that require more experience and physical training. This method based on the concept of deduction (from general idea to particular action). It might require some intellectual work, but as result opens very wide possibility to have more than just set of skills but a map which will help you to acquire new skills even after the workshop. During last half year i was developing a map for this method: visualization via pictograms which helps to remember principals and easily come back to them. It was tested partially in last two programs “Expanding Horizons” which we hosted with Sima Darova and now finally this method is ready to be released fully. It’s suggested to go through basic training in contact improvisation before joining this intensive. As a child Ivan practiced acrobatics & football. From 2005 was practicing yoga & meditation. At the same time, Ivan started to learn different schools of western and eastern philosophy and spiritual teachings. Since 2007 to 2009 studied martial arts. Ivan has been trained in different modern dance styles: butoh, hip-hop, popping, house, jazz funk, contemporary dance, tango. Other movement practices that he studied: Ideokinesis, Axis Syllabus & Movement Culture, Flow Arts & Physical Theatre. For the first time Ivan encountered contact improvisation in 2013, and has been teaching contact improvisation since 2018. He has been facilitating Contact Improvisation in Russia, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, China & South Korea and organizing international courses and residencies. Ivan is passionate to acquire new knowledge about movement & arts, integrating every piece of knowledge into his practice of CI. His unique characteristic is curiosity for self research through direct experience and analytical approach to the movement.
