Spots fill up quickly ~~~ Contact Improvisation is a partner dance form based on the physical principles of touch, momentum, shared weight, and most quintessentially - following a shared point of contact. The form was founded in 1972 by Steve Paxton. Integrating his background as a modern dancer and his studies in the martial art form Aikido, Steve developed Contact Improv through explorations with his students and colleagues at the time. This dance practice explores the skills of falling, rolling, counterbalance, lifting using minimal effort, how to make ourselves light when being lifted, centering and breathing techniques, and responsiveness to our partners and surroundings. * ALL LEVELS + witnessing welcome * JIM MATUS - Composer, band leader, arranger, guitarist, vocalist, laouto/laoutar player, teacher and studio engineer - specializing in progressive world fusion, jazz, rock and improvisatory music. Inventor of the LAOUTAR, a mandocello/Greek lute hybrid and composer/performer for this unique instrument. MOTI plays vocal-electronic music for dancers, performers, and lovers of sound. His music is inspired by the love and practice of dancing, teaching and playing music for Contact Improvisation, a partner dance form based on the physical principles of touch, momentum, shared weight, and following a shared point of contact. Moti's vocal acrobatics range from Gyoto monk throat singing to perfect trumpet imitations to alien utterances. Using electronic loopers and effects to create vocal layers he is a one-man bazaar.
