It's a traditional name that comes from Native American and colonial-era naming systems, which tied full moons to natural events and agricultural cycles. Specifically, the "Pink" in Pink Moon refers to the early springtime bloom of a wildflower called Phlox subulata, also known as moss pink. This vibrant pink flower is one of the first to blossom in spring in North America. So despite the name, the Pink Moon doesn’t actually appear pink (though sometimes atmospheric conditions can give the moon a slightly warm hue). It's just a poetic name marking the arrival of spring.
