About this Event
PLAY-FIGHT PRACTICE by Formless Arts
COMO INTENSIVE
With Francesca Romano and Ester Braga
27/28/29 October
(ITALIANO PIU’ IN BASSO)
We start from the premises that only when we are able to recognise how much tension we accumulate in our system (physical, mental, emotional..), we can tap into the power of relaxation, recycling tension into new momentum.
The paradoxical principle of “stop doing/undoing" allows the body to re-function with great efficiency, enhancing sensitivity, listening skills, availability and resiliency. In this way, we learn to not add, to not force, to not run away; we experience instead how to collaborate with our resistances by stop resisting, staying with what there is and riding every wave with self-honesty and wholeness.
The partner in this practice can play the important role of mirror, allowing us to playfully stretch the comfort zone and to get in touch with our patterns of reaction.
The workshop will unfold through various frames of exercise to prepare the ground for the free flow, with one or more partners. Once we arrive to the free-play we can access a never-ending flow of possibilities, responding intuitively with open mind and available body, crafting together a generous interplay between confrontation and collaboration.
Main Topics for this intensive:
- structure and integrity exploration
- how to deal with gravity, another perspective
- non- resistance quality as an empowering tool
- play/study/flow between confrontation and cooperation
- giving and receiving from a common space of openness
More about the practice:
Play-Fight, a self-empowering physical practice that weaves together cooperative qualities of dance partnering with highly refined confrontational principles from capoeira and internal martial arts. The exploration goes beyond the fringes of mere physicality. The reciprocal mirroring through the physical drills leads the practice into a deep space of self-discovery, for acknowledging and revealing myriad aspects in human interactions and expressions. The core guidance is to learn how to preserve own integrity and inner calm under controlled stress-induced events while being engaged through playfully confrontational interactions. The embodiment of principles of non-resistance and non-violence is at the top of all achievements for allowing flow to be embodied, returning thus to our original state of being.

Ester Braga
Play-Fight Practice Facilitator & Formless Arts Collaborator
Dance, yoga, contact improvisation, somatic - Practitioner & Researcher
Biodynamic Craniosacral - Student
Her background of experiences and interests mainly interconnects
intensive training in contemporary dance and floor-work, acrobatics,
contact improvisation, instant composition, with her later studies into yoga, postural, bmc, somatic practices and Biodynamic Craniosacral studies. She met Bruno Caverna in 2014, first through Liquid Body, later through
Play-Fight; a mind-blowing encounter which since then has been at the foundation of her journey, in life and profession. Ester currently works as communication manager for Formless Arts and as Play-Fight Facilitator in workshops & events all around Europe. For a few years she is deepening her exploration in the line between Play-Fight & Contact Improvisation giving birth to "Falling in the Point of Contact" approach and research.
Ester since 2022 teaches and collaborates with the italian Association Architetture di Corpi realising together an innovative formation dance course in Bologna (Italy) called HUMUS which offers 8 months of studies of and through Play-Fight, Axis Syllabus & Physical Theatre.
Ester since 2021 is studying Biodynamic Craniosacral which offers a
nourishing integration of therapeutic tools and knowledge into her current work with people through dance, movement and touch. This extremely fertile ground coming from the organic relationship and evolution of all the different experiences of Ester’s path, is now suggesting a wider exploration called Somatic Journey, in which to hold the space for meaningful
movement experiences (solo and shared with others) that can offer
different levels of approach, focus and objectives.
