Konpa Meets Kizomba: Haiti to Angola Get ready to embark on an unforgettable dance journey celebrating rhythm, connection, and culture! Join Kimberly & Horacio alongside internationally renowned artist Bev Flowers for a powerful fusion of Konpa and Kizomba—two soulful partner dances rooted in Haitian and Angolan heritage. With global experience spanning North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, this trio brings their passion and expertise to create an immersive, all-levels-friendly workshop that invites dancers of all backgrounds to explore and enjoy. Meet Bev Flowers: Konpa-fusion dancer/choreographer Beverlie Fleurinay, is a world- renowned Haitian choreographer and dance instructor based in New York City. She specializes in Konpa dance, a modern meringuĂ© dance in Haiti. Bev Flowers has taught and worked alongside prominent artists in the Haitian community such as Alan Cave, Harmonik, 5lan and more! Beverlie’s work emphasizes passion & creativity that allows her students to experience becoming one with music and the movement. A fact about Beverlie is that she was born in Haiti on the day of Haiti carnival in which her love for dance and music comes from. Beverlie grew up dancing at her school functions in Haiti were people would often compliment her dancing and confidence even as a child. While studying abroad in America, Beverlie got into modeling and acting and focused on that throughout high school but after college she decided to pursue her artistic career as a dancer. Beverlie has fully committed herself to building her dance empire and travel. Meet Kimberly & Horacio: Kimberly and Horácio are internationally recognized Kizomba and Semba instructors, choreographers, and dancers dedicated to sharing the authentic essence of these Angolan dance styles. Kimberly Nicole is the founder and director of Kizomba RDU Dance Company, based in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. Since discovering Kizomba in 2012, she has been a driving force behind the growth of the dance community across the Carolinas. Kimberly has traveled extensively to train with some of the world’s most renowned Kizomba and Semba instructors, most recently refining her skills in Angola. Known for her engaging and passionate teaching style, she emphasizes sensual body movements in a way that is both fun and accessible. Kimberly’s expertise has earned her nominations for "Best Kizomba Instructor" and "Best Tarraxinha Instructor" at the International Kizomba Awards USA 2022/2023. Horácio JoĂŁo, born and raised in Luanda, Angola, brings deep cultural and technical expertise to his teaching. A key member of Os Tukina Dance Company, one of Angola’s premier dance groups, Horácio has spent years promoting Angolan culture through performances, cultural events, and television appearances on TPA 1, TV Zimbo, and ZAP Viva/Viva Tarde. He has also competed in the Concurso Nacional Dança Kizomba/Semba, achieving notable placements in 2016, 2017, and 2018. In recognition of his contributions to sharing Angolan culture abroad, Horácio received a merit award from the Angolan Embassy in the United States. Together, Kimberly and Horácio are passionate ambassadors of Angolan culture, committed to preserving the roots of Kizomba and Semba. They have taught workshops in Kizomba, Semba, Tarraxinha, and Ginga/Body Movement at leading Latin and Kizomba dance festivals across North America, inspiring dancers with their authenticity and love for the art form.
