About this Event
Unfortunately, after great numbers during the warmer months we've had quite a drop once the weather has cooled, and this hasn't been helped with some of our lucky regulars wintering away for the next few months. This is generally the pattern we have seen over the many years we have been running the event. However, some of us feel that we do not think it is worth anyone's while to run the event when there are not enough people to create an atmosphere. I personally don't want to run an event if patrons are not getting value for money, by not being given enough opportunity for many dances and with different people. From the DJs point of view, we put in alot of time and effort composing our playlists, and get very excited when we have new songs to play for you. It would reward our efforts to have an adequate amount of couples dancing to our curated selection. Another major issue is that it has become even harder to maintain numbers when another tango event clashes with our longstanding nights. There is a misconception that dancers who come to Project NFT don't frequent traditional milongas and vice versa therefore it won't affect us. This is simply not true. Whilst there are a few of us who only go to Project NFT, the majority of dancers who come to us also go to other milongas. If there is another tango event on it quite often does detrimentally affect our numbers, especially in regards to the leaders, who are fewer in numbers to spread themselves out.
Project NFT has always been run in response to demand. It's up to you! If you want us to continue during this time it is imperative you show us with your attendance. Many people have told us that they love what we do, and want to support us. Well the only way to show us is to attend, and often. Since the next 2 dates were already advertised in our last notice, we will keep to those, and the rest will be judged on how many people show up this Sunday. If numbers don't improve we will have to look at only running once a month until the weather picks up and our regulars have returned, or not at all over the winter. What are your thoughts? Please send me your feedback regarding this issue, and general feedback about what you like or don't like about Project NFT. Of course, we want to keep running as per usual but once again, it's all totally up to you.
One other thing to consider is that Project NFT will not run forever. Due to my current personal circumstances I am based in Melbourne throughout the year with no travel, therefore I can continue to run the event continuously. However, once that changes (which could be at any time) I intend to be out of Melbourne more regularly, and for longer, and maybe even consider relocating. So if you really do love Project NFT I would encourage you to attend now whilst it is a sure thing, as the future of it is uncertain. I know from my own experience that I did not attend certain dance events I liked as often as I should have, and once they stopped running I regretted it, because once gone they are never coming back or can be replicated.
Our DJ this Sunday is DJ Bella.
