About this Event

Thankfully, enough of you answered the call to arms (in a good way ;-)) and attended our last event resulting in positive numbers. Fingers and toes and everything else crossed that this will continue. Your support with your attendance is invaluable, and makes for a successful night with great atmosphere. We could still always do with more leaders. I have been pondering the gradual demise of our past regular leaders and 3 major factors stand out. One is an aging body, which is no longer able to withstand a night of dancing, especially the knees, hips and back giving the most grief. This has also affected a couple of the ladies who have had to greatly reduce the amount of tango in their lives. It's a shame that given the mental and physical benefits of tango as a form of exercise, it doesn't protect all from these ailments. However, deterioration of our bodies is a natural progression of the aging process. Secondly, a new romantic relationship with a non-dancer seems to have abruptly ceased or decreased the tango journey of some others. Love, especially in it's infancy, is intoxicating and all-consuming, it takes a strong force to compete with that. What has surprised me about these guys is that they spent so much time and effort and money over a few years taking private lessons, learning from different teachers, going to tango festivals and attending more milongas than most, and in an instant they have given it all up. Lastly, on the other end of the age spectrum, some of the younger males had more time for tango when they were students, but don't have the same capacity of time for it once entering and establishing themselves in the workforce. Over the almost 15 years since starting Project NFT and over 20 years of dancing tango, I have seen many guys come and go. I guess I just assumed most of them would stay with it like I have, as I could never imagine tango not being a part of my life. I hope the newer leaders stick around for the long term, and that we get an influx of beginners who can last the distance πŸ™‚. Our DJ this Sunday is DJ Campbell. Project NFT runs on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month starting at 7.30pm, and is $20 (cash only). Our next events are: Sunday 1st June (this Sunday) Sunday 15th June Sunday 6th July Hoping to see you this Sunday!
