Puerto Rican Bomba Dance Workshop with Julia Gutierrez!

Live2Dance Events continues to bring MORE BOMBA to the DMV area with Julia Gutierrez-Rivera for an amazing, powerful and energetic 2-hour workshop on Sunday, May 21, 2017! Julia L. Gutiérrez-Rivera’s profound passion and connection to Puerto Rican and Afro-Caribbean cultural arts traditions stem from her bloodline, as the youngest daughter of Juan Gutiérrez, Founder/Director of Los Pleneros de la 21– Grammy Nominees and New York’s Bomba and Plena Ambassadors to the world and Vanguards of Puerto Rican cultural arts in the United States. As a performer, arts administrator and arts educator, her work continues to expand upon the legacy bestowed unto her by countless luminaries of Bomba & Plena and has proven instrumental towards the proliferation of these traditions for generations, young and old, from all over the world. Workshop information: Julia Gutierrez-Rivera will focus to provide a highly energetic, interactive and informative dance class that explores various rhythms and dance techniques of the Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba traditions. Dance skirts or scarfs are highly recommended. Note: Dancer should come prepared to dance and to sweat. This workshop is appropriate for multiple genres - Salsa on1, Salsa on2, Cuban Salsa. PLEASE BRING H20 WITH YOU! FAQs: What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? The studio has an open parking/first come first serve/plenty of parking spaces. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? You don't have to print your printed ticket to the event but it does make check-in flow faster. What is the refund policy? All sales are final. If the event is canceled the organizer will offer a refund. The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay? Yes, it's ok? if the ticket purchaser is present day of the event at the event. Is there a Metro station near the dance studio? Yes, there is! King St. Metro station is 7 minutes walking distance from the dance studio. Who can attend: This workshop is targeted to both male and female dance students of all ages, including children who are interested in learning about the Bomba dance rich culture, body movement, isolations, and flavor. *Children admission: 5 to 12 years old - $10 (pay at the door) Child must be accompanied by an adult *4 years old and younger enter free! What to wear to the workshop: Wear comfortable clothing that allows your body to move freely. The studio has a policy for all dancers to be barefoot while using their dance floor. Bring plenty of H20 to hydrate. Bring a small towel for your sweating needs. The workshop gets challenging, in a good way :) How long is the workshop: Registration starts at 3:45 pm. The workshop starts at 4:00 pm. The workshop ends at 5:50 pm. Questions for the instructor can be made after the workshop is over. Everything ends at 6:00 pm. Please arrive early for registration/signing in purposes.
