Queer Connect: Into the Closet

We are excited to announce that we have a new collaboration just for you - SoulPlay is combining forces with Genrefluid! When we realized we were each planning a queer dance event on the same night, our hearts sank. We didn’t want to divide the community when we both wanted to provide a safe space where queerness could be honored, celebrated, and expressed. So instead, we are coming together to bring the heart and spirit of SoulPlay with the wompy, wubby, dirty, deep bass that both Maya and K-Luh are notorious for. We are creating this space to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and provide a safe space to express without the pressures of gender roles, patriarchy, and conformity. Our goal is to create an environment that encourages everyone to be their most authentic selves, at a time when so many are trying to suppress this right. We are offering several activities designed to help attendees explore their identities and build meaningful connections with others: --An opening connection workshop to help you drop in with others as your true and most fullest self --A clothing swap so that you can try on new styles --A 3-hour wompy dance journey to help you get your groove on plus more surprises! No one will be turned away for lack of funds. About the Clothing Swap The act of coming out of the closet often feels scary and vulnerable. But closets can also be safe places where one can explore their identity in gender, sexuality, and beyond. Choosing to bring parts of oneself out of the closet is an act of radical power, and can give us the freedom to explore and express our love more fiercely. We’re encouraging folks to explore their gender expression by participating in an all-gender clothing swap in the back room throughout the night. About the Deejays Maya Light loves to dive into the depths of connection and expression through the unique and captivating conversation that is awakened on the dance floor. She plays as a director of the human experience, offering countless pathways and possibilities of movement through the range of diverse music she shares.
