Queer Tango with Anahí in July

We are over the moon to welcome Anahí Caballo from Buenos Aires to teach, perform and DJ in July. It will be a month of great dancing, music and community. We invite you to come dance with us. Let’s start with Ahaní’s bio – she’s an amazingly talented and hard working Porteña artist, and it is such a gift to have her with us for the rest of July. Anahí Carballo is a Argentine Tango and Folklore master teacher, choreographer, and director with more than two decades of global experience. She is the founder of Estudio Tango Cuir—the world’s premier Queer Tango studio—and spent ten years directing the historic all-female company Compañía Tango Entre Mujeres. Currently a professor at the National University of the Arts, her credentials include a Provincial Malambo Championship and a semifinalist spot at the World Tango Championship. She is the author of Vinculadas, Otro Modo, and co-author of Nuestra Historia. Ahaní’ is teaching both classes on Sundays, DJing our praticas, and she will teach and perform with Carrie Field at Abrazo, the queer milonga on Saturday July 18th. She is offering a limited number of private lessons – book early. Anahí is also teaching at two mainstream events: Wednesdays in July at La Bruja and Sat 7/25 at the All-nighter, both in Berkeley. Who will benefit: new dancers and all-level dancers who want to focus on tango basics to advance their dance. 4:30-5:30 pm Practica - socialize, practice, enjoy life + tea and treats station: bring a cup and goodies to share when you wish! 5:30-6:30 pm Deeper dive class. Who will benefit: dancers with 8 or more tango classes, who have an understanding of tango basics, and who want to go deep on special topics, getting more into technique, steps and pivots, spirals and joy. Classes limited to 22 dancers COST INDIVIDUAL CLASS, includes practica $15-25 honor system sliding Scale $10 Students with ID *Honor system sliding scale: We ask that higher income folks pay a higher / standard rate so that folks with less income and academic students can attend at a rate they can afford.
