with Radical Healing and LAC! 8pm Arrival 8:15pm Opening circle 8:30-9:45pm Dancewave (setweaver Billy Dickenson) 9:45-10pm Closing circle followed by restoration of the space Sliding scale $5-25* (suggested $15) *No one turned away for lack of funds Queer and Trans Dancewave is a non-judgmental creative space for queer, nonbinary, gender non-conforming, and trans folx to practice authentic self-expression and embodied liberation in community. Inspired by ecstatic dance, queer and trans dancewave is an immersive sound and movement experience with curated music woven in a wave format to help you get out of your head and into your body. Come as you are: whatever mood or emotions are present are welcome. You may use this queer and trans community container to explore sound and movement with your body and practice attuning to your own energy or to others through non-verbal means. This is a place for improvisational non-prescriptive movement, playful experimentation, to practice gaining comfort with uncertainty, radical vulnerability, authenticity, courage, unlearning perfectionism, and letting go. Explore what it's like moving just for pleasure, together. This is a safe place to be weird and different. This is healing in community. All dance abilities or lack thereof are fully welcome. Dancewaves start slowly, build to a peak and then return to stillness, during which time you will get to experience the euphoria of music, rhythm and connection. We co-create an environment intentionally free from verbal conversation and cell phones to support a more fully embodied experience. There will be a facilitated movement warm-up by Dr. Bex Pattowitz, SEP prior to the dancewave. The Dancewave lasts for 75 minutes, during which we encourage you to take care of your well-being, to move at the pace and in ways that feel best to your system and to honor others by always seeking consent in your interactions. This is an inclusive, accessible and intergenerational space for people to move freely and express themselves creatively. We embrace all forms of diversity, including gender, neurotype, race, religion, age, ethnicity, and sexual orientation, and we work to understand and dismantle all kinds of oppression present within our community. Please feel free to bring whatever accommodations will best facilitate your authentic participation, such as earplugs (although the music won’t be super loud!). Masking is optional and highly encouraged. If folx are sick or have been in large crowds, we ask that they test before coming to the event. Indoor Co-Created Dance Space Offerings: • Seasonal Altar: You are invited to bring an offering to the shared, co-built community altar. • Art Station: Rest, write, draw, doodle, play with color • Card Collection: Inspirational decks for you to choose from • Resting Nook: Pillows and blankets provided for your ease and comfort • Closing Circle: A potent time to share briefly from the day's Dancewave experience, if you choose • Restoration of the Space: Join in returning all of the above to its place after Closing Circle.
