Presented by Living Arts Collective and Radical Healing Collaborative 8pm Arrival 8:10-8:20pm Opening circle 8:20-8:30pm Facilitated warm-up 8:30-9:45pm Dancewave 9:45-10pm Closing circle followed by restoration of the space Sliding scale $5-25* (suggested $15) *No one turned away for lack of funds Set weaver: Jay Schnaak Queer and Trans Dancewave is a non-judgmental creative space for queer, nonbinary, gender non-conforming, and trans folx to practice authentic self-expression and embodied liberation in community. Inspired by ecstatic dance, queer and trans dancewave is an immersive sound and movement experience with curated music woven in a wave format to help you get out of your head and into your body. Come as you are: whatever mood or emotions are present are welcome. All dance abilities or lack thereof are fully welcome. Stillness is welcome. You may use this practice space to glean whatever medicine you need. You may use this queer and trans community container to explore sound and movement with your body and practice attuning to your own energy or to others through non-verbal means. This is a safe place to be weird and different, to move with joy, grief, confusion or anger. This is a place for improvisational, non-prescriptive movement, playful experimentation, radical vulnerability and authenticity; a space to practice unlearning perfectionism, comparison, and conformity, gaining comfort with uncertainty and learning to let go of control. This is a place to explore what it's like moving just for your pleasure, together. Dancewaves start slowly, build to a peak and then return to stillness. There will be a facilitated movement warm-up prior to the 75-minute dancewave, during which we encourage you to take care of your well-being, to move at the pace and in ways that feel best to your system and to honor others by always seeking consent in your interactions. We co-create an environment intentionally free from verbal conversation and cell phones to support a more fully embodied experience. This is an inclusive, accessible and intergenerational space for people to move freely and express themselves creatively. We embrace all forms of diversity, including gender, neurotype, race, religion, age, ethnicity, and sexual orientation, and we work to understand and dismantle all kinds of oppression present within our community. Please feel free to bring whatever accommodations will best facilitate your authentic participation, such as earplugs (although the music won’t be super loud). QTGNC Dancewave is an intentional space for people who identify as queer, transgender, nonbinary, gender-questioning and/or gender non-conforming who may feel relief in an affinity space where it feels safer to express themselves freely. If you want to attend and feel like you’re queer, even if you maybe haven’t had a lot of time to explore that identity, or you are in a straight-passing relationship—you are totally welcome. On the other hand, if you are an ally but aren’t questioning your own identity or orientation or doing inner work to challenge compulsory heteronormativity—probably not the right space. If allies and friends of QTGNC folks want to support them, we invite friends and allies to make donations by purchasing a ticket for the QTGNC Dancewave while also supporting the affinity space by not taking up actual space at the QTGNC Dance Wave. Masking policy: Masking is optional and highly encouraged. If folx are sick or have been in large crowds, we ask that they test before coming to the event.
