Rebecca Shulman Argentine Tango Workshop Weekend November 6-8 Please join us in welcoming Rebecca Shulman on her first visit to Salt Lake City. A pioneer in bringing Argentine tango to the United States in the 1990s, Rebecca is an exceptionally accomplished and experienced leader and follower. She is widely recognized for her deep knowledge of Argentine tango and her decades of experience as a dancer and teacher. Weekend Schedule and Pricing Friday, November 6 7:00 – 8:15pm Milonga & Rhythmic Tango ~ the pleasures of punctuation, and the clarity of clean right angles, combine to charm us when we add rhythms to simple steps ($25 in advance $30 at the door) 8:30 – 11:30pm Milonga w/DJ Serena Tango Lembach ($15) Saturday, November 7 1:00 – 2:15pm 8 Ways to Switch the Ocho ~ plus 4 techniques for pivots. Structure and improvisation stemming from the variety of elements that will flip an ocho from back to front, or vice versa. How many ways can you think of? Experienced dancers will enjoy this trove of options, including techniques for pivots that range from secret to fancy ($25 in advance $30 at the door). 2:30 – 3:45PM The Winning Sacada ~ the easiest, safest, most popular sacada, which you should dance more often! It's very satisfying, and can add a nice 'pow' and extra spin with little danger to anyone's toes. We'll explore a variety of places to find this same easy sacada: from common giros, from the cross, from ochos ($25 in advance $30 at the door). 8:30 – 12:00am Grand Milonga w/DJ TBD ($20 in advance $25 at the door) Sunday, November 8 12:30 – 1:45pm Ballroom Utah Studio Banked & Bent Salidas and Turns ~ Joy, melody and yearning ~ dance a sustained curve through space, whether you're a follower adding two specific curves to a straight path, or a leader creating a curving path. Beautiful ways of curving to the cross will be augmented by the tilt, sway, and curve that followers will sculpt ($25 in advance $30 at the door). 2:00 – 4:00pm Guided Practica at Utah Ballroom w/DJ TBD ($15) Full Pass $125 For Private Lessons contact Rebecca at [email protected] or call or text her at 917-828-1250 Rebecca lives in New York, began dancing tango in 1991, and traveled frequently to Buenos Aires throughout the 90s, learning from, dancing with, and observing dancers who in their youth had danced in tango's Golden Age (the 1940s). She has also taught and performed with a wide variety of today's finest teachers and performers from several generations. She's been well received at many festivals and in workshops across the States, and along with teaching 5 levels of tango for 20 years at Dance Manhattan studios, created curricula for a team of ten tango teachers there. (She was also one of Nick Walker's teachers, 33 years ago or so 🙂) Rebecca's been called "unique in her parallel skillsets of being a truly comfortable and skilled social dancer as well as a captivating performer – both as a leader and follower!" Ballet, yoga, and contact improvisation round out her background, and she continues to learn tango both from her various partners and colleagues and by taking classes from visiting instructors 😉 All this training and experience makes her "exceptionally versatile as a teacher, enabling her to craft unusually engaging classes and provide detailed, attainable feedback to dancers" (Dan again).
