Vancouver Contact Improvisation Festival (VCIF)

The Vancouver Contact Improvisation Festival (VCIF) offers an inspiring weekend learning, and sharing experience, with highly regarded teachers from Canada and the United States. The festival includes intensives, classes, jams, labs and discussion groups that are focused on encouraging and nurturing the study and practice of dance improvisation. Areas of study include solo/group improvisation, contact improvisation, movement practice, movement analysis and contemplative dance practice. Each day will begin with a class suitable for beginners and gradually increase is skillset throughout the day followed by a community jam. Festival dates and times are as follows: Friday: 6pm to 12am Saturday: 9:30am to 11:30pm Sunday: 12:45 to 5:30pm Also, Helen Walkley will be teaching an improvisation intensive on Saturday which is an add-on to the event. The intensive is titled Improvisation: The Presence of Mind in Motion. The price is $45 (before October 1) or $55 thereafter. Pre-registration is required as there is a maximum of 16 dancers. Space is limited to a maximum of 100 participants this year. As an incentive to register as soon as possible we four options that may work for you: 1. If you register before Oct 7th we will extend the early bird price of $85. After Oct 8th the rate will be $100 per person. 2. There are 6 spots left for Helen Walkley's Improvisation Intensive. If you wish to register for this add-on to the festival the fee is $45 per person before October 1 or $55 per person After October 2. (see above information and link) 3. If you wish to register for Saturday and Sunday only (not including the add-on improvisation intensive) the rate will be $60 per person. 4. For those that can only attend the evening jam's on both Friday and Saturday night the cost will be $20 per person each night.
