Renata is vacationing in the US with her partner, Hugo Sobral, yet they have set aside a little time to teach in between sightseeing. We are excited to share that Chicago is one of the only cities in America this year that will host an opportunity for all levels up to advanced instruction by the “Queen of Zouk Lambada” herself with 12+ hours of workshops, open floor practices, and social dance parties in one convenient location! Renata Peçanha is the most well known female Zouk Lambada dancer in Brazil. She worked with Jaime Arôxa’s company in Rio de Janeiro for 6 years, together with seminal artists like Adilio Porto creating both the foundations for Brazilian Zouk as well as a methodology for teaching the rhythm that is recognized all over the world. Drawing from her background in Jazz, Contemporary, and Ballet, Renata founded her own dance company in 2000, and her professional repertoire includes Brazilian Zouk, Lambada, Salsa, Samba de Gafieira, Forró, Merengue, Soltinho, Jive, Rhumba, Chá Chá Chá, Bolero, Waltz, Maxixe, and more. WEEKENDER SCHEDULE (16 MARCH 2024 DRAFT) 1. SAT 3/22 from 3 to 5p - 90 min limited enrollment ADVANCED Brazilian Zouk intensive by Renata & Hugo plus 30 min open floor practice. Topic: traveling head motions with line change and toalha variations. (Note that this will occur in a smaller studio and not the DCC Loft, hence the more limited enrollment space restriction) 2. SAT 3/22 from 5 to 6p dinner break 3. SAT 3/22 from 6 to 9p - 2 total back-to-back 90 min all levels to intermediate workshops with Renata & Hugo in the DCC Loft. Topics: Viradinha to tilted turn combinations with line change, inclination, balance, and continuity of travel exits plus styling. 4. SAT 3/22 from 9p to 12a - Social dance party collaboration with Zoukers Take Chicago, Renata & Hugo, plus Just Jacob DJaying in the DCC Loft. Social theme: "Celebrate the start of spring by dressing in florals or spring colors." 5. SUN 3/23 from 1 to 5p - 2 total back-to-back 90 min intermediate to ADVANCED workshops with Renata & Hugo in the DCC Loft followed by 60 min concluding open floor practice.
