Read more about Christina here:
Mauritian-born & a former medical scientist, Christina had a complete change of life when she was studying Cuban dance in Sweden in the 90s. This was just the beginning of a journey that sees arts and cultural development become part of her existence, in every community, she lives & works in. Christina advocates for all cultural groups and local First Nation peoples to share and exchange culture.
Some of Christina’s greatest achievements have been participation in an intensive Afro-Cuban workshop held in Denmark, & joining a professional dance ensemble, dancing Afro-Cuban and Popular Cuban rhythms (Salsa, Cha cha cha, Mambo, Conga) all over Scandinavia.
Christina later joined a cultural exchange program in Havana where she studied Afro-Cuban dance, Yoruba spirituality and Santería religion, which led to her full initiation as a priestess of Santería, an incredible process of awakening to her true gifts and sharing those with the world.
Christina introduced the energy and passion of Afro-Cuban rhythms to Australia in 1999 under Australia’s first Cuban Dance Academy in Melbourne, leading up to hosting Australia’s first International Cuban Dance Congress as well as organising annual Culture, Dance & Music Tours to Cuba.
Christina has introduced new festivals like Afrekete Afro-Cuban Festival, which brings people from all around Australia and NZ to participate, showcase, share and exchange culture.
Through her passion for working with the arts & community, Christina was awarded Coffs Harbour IWD International Woman of the Year (2015).
