We invite YOU to take a seat in their stead, to feel the pulse of those who came before you, and to remember that one day, we too shall become the ancestors that will be remembered. This is our All Hallows Eve, the holy day that gave rise to what we now call Halloween, once a time ~not of fear and ghoulish things, but of gratitude, a festival of harvest and remembrance, a time for honoring the souls who walked before us, whose courage, love, and labor carved the path beneath our feet. We dance with them tonight, we put their favorite foods on the table... and mementos of their days... photos, buttons, offerings of many kinds. We invite you to bring yours. Their coat hung upon the chairs... We call upon the sky people, the earth keepers, the storytellers and dream weavers of our lineage. Their breath is in our breath, their bones in our bones, their prayers still alive in the rhythm of our steps. May the dance be our offering. Our sweat and song be the incense that rises as we sweat our prayers. As we honor their sacrifices, may we also prepare our hearts for the sacred offerings we, too, are called to make, if not now then surely one day in the near future. For the generations yet unborn, for the world that will remember our names. Ancestors, sky people, kin of spirit hear our grateful tears fall, hear our prayers carried on the drumbeat, feel our respect woven in this circle. We are surely blessed.
