Everyone comes to Argentine Tango from a different place. It's been that way from the beginning. The Roads to Inspiration starts where you are. Builders and A GPS for Tango Listening will continue to inspire your dancing, musicianship, teaching and pleasure with surprising facts, connections, and insights that will bring us closer to Argentine Tango and to one another. BUILDERS SYMPOSIUMS. While the Builders may not have set out to do so, the people who constructed Argentine Tango created inspiring and enduring art forms. For raw materials, they had the fabric of their own life and times. Although we may see their time as an era very different from our own, we find ourselves deeply connected to what they created. And this leads us to wonder how different, really, were the times, and the people? Join author and professor of history Catalina Cabana for an intriguing dialogue on where tango has been where it can take us. Builders symposiums are scheduled on Saturday (01/16/21) and Sunday (01/17/21). Cata will cover the time period from the 1930s to the 2000s. No prerequisite to attend. A GPS FOR TANGO LISTENING SYMPOSIUMS. To get where you’re going in Argentine Tango, it helps to know where you’re coming from. In A GPS for Tango Listening symposiums bandoneonist and ethnomusicologist, Heyni Solera brings her sense of adventure and scholarship to explore the twists and turns of where Argentine Tango music is today and where it can take us in the future. A GPS for Tango Listening symposiums are scheduled on Saturday (01/16/21) and Sunday (01/17/21). Prerequisite required (October 2020 Roads to Inspiration 1st Edition symposiums). TangoSpheres programs, including our symposiums, are geared to visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. All events EST/EDT. SPEAKERS Heyni Solera: Ethnomusicologist and bandoneonist (Washington D.C.). Heyni began her studies in bandoneon with professor Santiago Segret, in December 2015. As she became more fluent with the instrument, she participated in leading tango music festivals in North America, such as the Stowe Tango Music Festival in Stowe, VT, Tango for Musicians at Reed College in Portland, OR, and the Cuarteto Tanguero Workshop in Toronto, Canada. Her desire to deepen her knowledge of the instrument led her to spend 2019 in Buenos Aires, where she continued her studies with Segret and renowned bandoneonist Ramiro Boero. During this time, she also had the privilege of performing with several of Argentina’s most prominent educational tango orchestras, such as the Orquesta de Tango de la UNA, Orquesta Escuela Orlando Goñi, Orquesta de Tango del Conservatorio Superior de Musica Manuel de Falla, and Ensemble de Tango de la UNSAM under the direction of Ariel Pirotti, Julian Peralta, Adrian Enriquez, and Ramiro Gallo, respectively. Heyni’s current projects include Today’s Tango with Heyni, a mini-series that features today’s contemporary tango musicians throughout the world, and a recording project with Arco & Aire.
