The Rocky Mountain Blues Troopers present: "Rock Your Blues" a workshop, social dance and performance extrvaganza! Last year we performed and taught in Denver and this year we're taking it to Albuquerque! Come join us at the Friday night dance and on Saturday for a day of workshops and performances. There will also be a Saturday evening house party with even more awesome dancing. Here are the class descriptions: 11am to 12pm Solo Vernacular Movement “How do I give the music my whole attention?” The answer is here! Come learn how to connect your power center to the music and the world. Historic Dances In this class, we'll delve into the essence of blues pulse and integrate it into different historic Blues dances including the cakewalk. 12:15 to 1:15 Connecting to a Partner This class will cover the five points of connection, four different ways to connect with a partner, and all the etiquette you will ever want to know for touching another human. Dips and Tricks Do you want everyone to survive your dances? Perhaps you’re interested in trying something new? Come learn to fly and land successfully! 2 to 2:45 Practica Play with what you've learned in a relaxed environment where you can receive personal attention from instructors. 2:45 to 3:45 Music Genres and Musicality Adjusting dance styles and personal movement based on a variety of historic blues music genres within the classic 12-bar blues structure. Artist Spotlights TBA 4 to 5 Embodied History Dance your way through the stories of the past. Storytelling Once upon a time, blues music helped oppressed African-Americans across the country tell their stories. We will explore both honoring their stories and expressing our own through lyrics, instrumentation, and genre. Be prepared to play, contemplate, and learn to create mind-blowing dances. Track Descriptions: Track A This track will cover the fundamentals of blues dancing. This will include topics like answering the question “what is blues?”, providing an introduction to blues culture and aesthetics, and giving plenty of useful tips for dance floor etiquette. Track B This track will help you polish what you already know about blues dancing. You should come prepared with a familiarity with partnered connection, comfortability with solo movement, and should be starting to explore musicality to different blues genres.
