Welcome to the Routes and Roots of Bachata Workshop. The intention of this two part series is to explore bachata’s roots, get familiar with bachata key rhythms, instruments, and song structures, recognize changes in the music, and deepen your connection with it. If you’re curious about where things come from (the history, rhythms, and evolution behind what we dance today) or simply enjoy diving into the music, you’ll find something special in this series. Part 1: Understanding Musicality (Online via Zoom) - 75mins 📅 Sunday, November 30 at 2 PM EST Grab your favorite beverage and join me live online as we explore how bachata evolved from Cuban bolero and son, and how other Cuban and Dominican genres shaped it. Together, we’ll trace its roots and see how rhythm, structure, and movement come together. Part 2: Musicality in Action (IN PERSON) 📅 Sunday, December 7 at 4 PM 📍 Pure Havana (190 MacLaren, Ottawa) We’ll bring musicality to life on the dance floor, experiencing the transition between bolero and bachata to find authentic expression.
