9:00am-11:00am BEACH CLEAN UP (Details below) 12:00pm-1:30pm SACRED WATERS DANCE WORKSHOP The Sea-both wild and calm, dangerous and beautiful- is responsible for the beginning of all life on Earth. The ebb and flow of her tides are guided by celestial bodies, primarily the Moon, and are linked to human emotions, fertility and childbirth. Many cultures throughout the world revere the divinity of the sea and acknowledge its many healing properties for restoring physical, emotional, and spiritual balance. Making connections across cultures through storytelling, this powerful dance workshop focuses on cosmic body intelligence and explores how we can restore our relationship to the sacred through body movement. All levels and abilities welcome. There will be a beach clean up organized by the Surfrider Foundation on July 6th 9am-11am (meeting at the Oceanside Pier, supplies are provided). Hope to see you there before we dance <3 Artist Bio: Vika S. Hernandez is a dance artist from San Diego, CA. She holds a M.A. of Arts in Global & International Studies with an emphasis on Global Culture and Religion. Her unique dance classes investigate how cosmology shapes our understanding of the universe as well as our understanding of the human body. A lifelong dancer, she credits her embodied knowledge from her continuous dance and capoeira training with Mestre Mariano Silva, as well as her training in Bahia, Brazil at Fundação Cultural do Estado da Bahia (FUNCEB); Associação Artistica e Cultural Diáspora - Diáspora Art Center; and Capoeira Corpo e Movimento. She has studied various genres of Afro-Brazilian dance and movement such as Afro-Contemporary, Orixa Sacred Dances, Samba, and Samba-Reggae. Her teaching philosophy celebrates diversity, emphasizes body intelligence with connections to nature and promotes radical self-love.
