“Salsa Bootcamp”

If you have ever been curious about Salsa dancing, and you would like to gain a clear understanding about its culture, its history and various forms of musical interpretations, this is the workshop for you. This very complete mini bootcamp will explain fundamental subjects including body mechanics, connection/embrace, spins/turns, footwork/shines and improvisation. Classes are open to everyone, but you can expect them to be highly active. Partners are encouraged but not require, couple rotations will be expected during every session. Please be advised that due to the nature of these classes, we strongly suggest to wear appropriate attire and suitable dance shoes. When: Saturday, March 15th, 2025 (from 3 to 7pm) Where: Elegant Dancing 11230 Waples Mill Road, Suite 118, Fairfax VA 22030 Time: 3:00 pm to 7:00pm Teachers: Edwin Roa & Lynda Buechel Topics: SALSA 101 “AZUCAR” (Beg level - 3:00 to 3:50pm.) SALSA 201 “ECHALE SALSITA” (Int. Level - 4:00 to 4:50pm.) SALSA 301 “SALSA PICANTE” (Int/Adv. Level - 5:00 to 5:50pm.) Open practice “Practica Z” (Everyone welcome (Open practice 6 to 7pm) Pricing: $50 for the entire event, if pay by pre-registration before March 8. Participants are welcome to select “a la carte”: Full Bootcamp. = $60 per person at the door. Each session = $20 per person at the door. Practica Z only = $10 per person at the door. Classes and descriptions: Salsa 101 “AZUCAR” - 3 to 3:50pm This class is ideal for absolute beginners, and essential for anyone aspiring to advance within this dance style. This class will explain musical structure, body mechanics, types of dance embrace, plus it will provide participants with a quick historical overview, footwork and basic patterns. Partners are not required. Salsa 201 “ECHALE SALSITA” - 4 to 4:50pm This particular class will focus on musicality and connection. Students will be taught amalgamations that will help them understand how to interpret music (Salsa on One vs Two). We will explore concepts of timing (syncopation and hesitations), plus we will study partnering work such as counterbalancing. partners are encouraged, but not essential. Salsa 301 “SALSA PICANTE” - 5 to 5:50pm Ideal for intermediate and upper levels, this class focuses on dynamic movement and sharing axes, we will explore turning elements such as Spins and Spirals. We will work on dynamic movement and speed. Students will learn practical and fun amalgamations in this class. Experience is required, partners are strongly encouraged. “Guided Practice” “Practica Z” - 6 to 7pm During this hour, the floor will be open for general dance. This time could be treated as Q & A, or simply open dancing. Students will be encouraged to explore ideas and practice their own repertoire. We will monitor the music and offer suggestions along the way. (It is important to note that this session will be open to all levels, and people will be expected to be social and exchange partners.)
