Somewhat reluctant to place her work within this term, she prefers to talk to us about expression and style through Cuban music. This Canarian artist arrives with the intention of representing, in some way, the current world and how women perceive themselves in it. Former gymnast, singer and actress, Alex/Alexandra, became interested in the world of Latin rhythms at the age of 11. She came into contact with LA-style salsa, even competing in the World Salsa Open, formerly held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 2015 she had the opportunity, through teaching, to learn more about Cuban music, its popular expression and its dance form. In love with the character of "Cubanía", she does self-taught observation and practice work for a while until in 2019 she is part of the YTM project directed by teacher Yoannis Tamayo. From this experience came the decision to train under the supervision of dancer and teacher Diana Rodriguez García through her online training program. Influenced by classical ballet in her childhood, and her admiration for the performance and show of ballroom dancers in her adolescence, Alex wants to infect us with elegance, simplicity and closeness with her way of being and understanding dance using Cuban music as a vehicle and moving through salsa with its different styles and possibilities, trying not to use many labels but rather using play, composition and fun to create and transform their style in this current space. 💃🏻🎵
