SALSA CASINO LESSONS Hello Friends! I am thrilled to announce that Suzana and I will be teaching a four week session of Salsa Casino lessons. The lessons are taking place at the Dominique's Dance Creations (DDC) Studio on Fridays, beginning with the 18th of November with two time slot options 5:00 - 6:00 and 6:00 - 7:00, What is Salsa Casino? Salsa Casino is the dance we experience nowadays in all of its variations. The music has elements of authentic Rumba (Afro-Cuban rhythms) as well as rhythm's of urban Cuba - Son Montuno (Spanish). Salsa Casino is a blend of the two. When danced in a couple to Son Montuno is supposed to be danced "Contratiempo" (which means between the beats) but in a Rueda de Casino (wheel) form " A Tiempo" ( on beat, mostly on 1 or 3). Songo, Salsa and Timba are mostly danced "A Tiempo" in couples and that is abundant on the Salsa dance scene. Salsa dance has the dance structure such as lead, follow and steps based on Son style dancing, while the free "hot" movements derive from Rumba Cubana. Salsa is a beautiful balance of both. Remove one from this equation and it becomes either boring or a mess. My personal opinion is that dance elements of other dance forms (for instance ballroom, swing , but not limited to) are supposed to be added in quantities as if they were spices and not main ingredients. If they were the main ingredients that would make the dish too salty, too hot, too sour etc. The beauty of this dance is based on communication of the two dancers engaging in it. The main objective is to make the person dancing with you feel good and to accomplish this it takes both partners to learn their roles and understand the essence of lead and follow. For both dancers to enjoy that little romance, one needs to learn and understand "the language" of Salsa. This is where a good instruction comes in. Our classes are designed to teach students in a way that easily allows material to become self-evident and understood. The classes have a steady progression, however this will always be adjusted to the level of the group's progress. The lessons will consist of three parts: 10-20 minutes open step patterns, what we like to call "Salsa Aerobics".We'll warm up and work on rhythm, balance and musicality. Then we introduce new step patterns relevant to new combination and expand the repertoire. 20-30 minutes of teaching new combinations (and variations) depending on students' response 10-30 minutes guided practice with Q+A Participants are encouraged to ask questions at any time during the lesson as it helps everyone. The material taught can be danced/ practiced in couples or in Rueda de Casino formation. Pricing is reflective of the DDC studio's policies: Monthly (4 weeks) - $50 per person.
