The band, also known under the name of “Descarga Klezmer”, published in 2013 a first CD (When Klezmer Meets Salsa), which explores the possibilities of such an encounter. In 2016, their 2nd album (Somos Los Cigarillos) accelerates their fusion to a higher level: the melodies of Jewish festive occasions, combined with the sher, bulgar and freylekh pieces from the klezmer universe, rub shoulders henceforth with danzon, timba and salsa dura. And if some pieces flirt with Cumbia, others entirely bathe in an Afro- Cuban spirituality in which the transcendent energy of the nigun is sublimated by the enchanted sonorities of the Batá drums used during trance ceremonies of the Yoruba people in Nigeria and of the Santería in Cuba. It should be noted that strong similarities exist between klezmer rhythms ‒ essentially dance music borrowed by Eastern European Jewish musicians from their environment ‒ and Latino rhythms, profoundly influenced by African music. Thus, the rhythm of a bulgar ‒ a dance typical of klezmer music ‒ resembles the rhythm of the clave, a rhythm pattern of African origin but also a percussion instrument, which is found pervasively in Latin music. Taking advantage of this improbable relation, David el Shatràn, director, arranger and pianist of the group Cigarillos en el Shtruddle, amuses himself by joyfully interweaving these two repertoires, to the point of giving birth to a natural child, which may be described as Jewish salsa (JewSalsa). David el Shatràn and the Cigarillos take us on a trip into the heart of a “Shtetlito Cubanele” where the gefilte fish poached in Latin America is skillfully simmered in a salsa spiced with horseradish! <===> LISTEN 2nd ALBUM : ► SPOTIFY : https://open.spotify.com/album/5PYRbvfxxZYe6c5ZbnJqbY ► DEEZER : http://www.deezer.com/album/14990721 ► ITUNES : https://itunes.apple.com/fr/album/somos-los-cigarillos-klezmer/id1192401363 ► GOOGLE : https://play.google.com/store/music/album?id=Boqfhlki4r4pa5lxegnaktks6ly <===> VIDEOS : ► CLIP : Bei Mir Bistu Shein : https://youtu.be/CMEskm6wV44 ► Making of 2nd album : https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1328166650581217 ► CLIP: Apple is Dancing Salsa ► LIVE : Ma Nishtana // @ NEW MORNING ► LIVE : Misirlu // @ Habana Club TLV ****************************************************** JEWSALSA ****************************************************** www.jewsalsa.com
