I do not intend to take ownership as the first person ever teaching Cuban Salsa in Scotland. I could happily say though, I believe that group I taught those 6 months in the 1997, invited by the Academia de Salsa team and my adopted Scottish brother Duncan Kane, was the first group learning Cuban salsa on a regular basis here in Glasgow. As the years went by, Glasgow became one of the main cities in the UK where Cuban dance has always been extraordinary popular on all salsa venues. Today there are 4 Salsa Schools teaching Cuban dance in Glasgow. I am immensely proud for my contribution in bringing a little of Cuba and its culture to this country. As well as other fantastic dance instructors we have touched many people lives. We have created a great opportunity for having lots of fun, meeting new friendship and more importantly, live treasured memories. To celebrate these 21 years of wonderful Cuban dance classes and events, we are bringing one of the best and most popular Salsa DJs in Cuba and Europe - Joel Verdecia, known as DJ Flecha. Flecha is a professional Cuban DJ since the 90’s playing at the heart of Havana's nightlife. In 2001 Flecha became resident DJ at famous Casa De La Musica ‘Habana’ and for 7 years he played alternatively with the most famous Cuban bands such as: Los Van Van, Charanga Habanera, Adalberto Álvarez, Manolito Simonet Y Su Trabuco, Pupi Y Los Que Son Son, Maikel Blanco Y Su Salsa Mayor, among others. He also backed up Urban performances like Gente De Zona. DJ Flecha moved to London where he jumped into the Latin scene getting lots of awards and recognitions. Since his arrival to the UK, he has been acclaimed by all promoters and organisers of the most important events, festivals and congresses in the UK and Europe. He is well known for keeping the dance floor buzzing all night long in any club he plays. In addition, due to popular demand and taking advantage of the bigger dance floor, we are bringing again the amazing Cuban Dance instructors and Performers Oscle and Lisi to teach two dance classes at the Party on Sunday and also to lead the crowd with their infectious great dance animations throughout the night.
