About this Event
Find out about our upcoming opportunity to join Dance Culture's Salsa Shines and Partnered Salsa teams
Dance Culture is inviting experienced Salseros and Salseras to join us for a no-pressure information and give-it-a-try/audition session.
We are seeking experienced Salsa dancers to try out for Dance Culture's upcoming Intermediate Salsa Shines and Advanced Partnered Salsa teams. Both choreographies will be danced "on-1" and will be taught by our Advanced Salsa instructor Paul Cavanagh.
** Schedule **
Thursday 15th September 2022
6:30pm Salsa Shines (Solo) team information session and audition (suitable for our Level 3-5 students and others with equivalent Salsa experience)
7:30pm Partnered Salsa team information session and audition (suitable for our Level 4-5 students and others with equivalent Salsa experience)
** Is this for me? **
These courses are for both men and women. Come and try these sessions for free to see if you'd like to join one or both teams and to check that you'll be able to keep up.
If you feel confident dancing Salsa on-1 shines (dancing without a partner) and have at least 9 months of experience dancing Salsa (or you're in our Level 3-5 Salsa classes) we encourage you to give the 6:30pm Salsa Shines session a go.
If you feel confident dancing partnered Salsa on-1 and have at least 1.5 years of experience dancing Salsa (or you're in our Level 4-5 Salsa classes) we encourage you to give the 7:30pm Partnered Salsa session a go. This choreography will lean more toward what we would consider Level 5 (Upper Intermediate to Advanced) and be quite challenging. You do not need to bring a dance partner.
These courses are not for beginners. Beginners (e.g. our Level 2-3) will soon have an opportunity to join a fun choreographed team. Information about that course will be released soon.
** Investment & commitment **
This information and try-it-out session is completely free and there is no pressure to continue with either course.
If you are subsequently invited to join the team, please expect to start a 10-week training course the following Thursday at the same time and to invest approximately $330 into the training for one team or $480 for both teams.
The above course details - plus dates for performance commitments and filming - will be confirmed during the information session. There may be opportunities to perform and/or compete at this year's Brisbane Latin Dance Festival / World Salsa Solo event in December.
Team members will be expected to follow Dance Culture's Code of Conduct and to attend all training and performance sessions. Exceptions will be made for unforeseen medical issues. Any prior commitments should be communicated to Paul at the end of the information session so that he can determine in advance if the resulting absence will cause any problems with the teams' preparations.
** How to register **
Please select which session(s) you'd like to try and click "Get Tickets". There is no fee to register to attend the information/try-out session.
** What to wear/bring? **
Please bring water and wear what you'd normally wear for a dance class.
** Location **
This event and its subsequent trainings will be held at Dance Culture, 1st floor, 474 Ipswich Road, Annerley. We are right on the intersection of Ipswich Road and Annerley Road, across from 99 Bikes. You can find the door to Dance Culture between Yesterday's Thrift Shop and Lifeline's Vintage Revival.
