Nasu Yakbai: Back in Charlottesville for TWO SPECIAL WORKSHOPS!
Here is a great opportunity for any dance enthusiast to take advantage of!
On Sunday, September 20, from 3-5 PM, guest instructor and international dancer, Nasu Yakbai will be offering a MASTER SALSA WORKSHOP at Zabor Dance (109 2nd St. SE, 2nd floor, Charlottesville, VA) from 3-5 PM
For those of you who are not familiar with him, Nasu is a highly accomplished salsero who has been instructing for the past 6 years and has a deep knowledge on the subject, not only in the dance, but also in the music. By using his deep understanding of musicality and his skills as a teacher, he is able to efficiently explain the subtleties of lead and follow, while also giving tips on how to perform salsa in various rhythms (on1, on2, etc.) and harmonize with each other.
This 2-part workshop will be based on the following concepts:
- Current turn patterns--Keep up with the pace of the world by learning what dancers are doing in the major congresses and clubs around the world...leaders AND followers!
- Intermediate AfroCuban Body Movement--Most dancers outside of major dance scenes can be rather stiff. Learn moves that will give "soul" to your dance. Nasu will introduce the concept of "kinabulary" and its application in evolving your dance. This section will cover the moves inside the moves.
- Musicality, Creativity, and Improvisation in Dance--You can dance the same steps day after day and bore your partner to death, or learn how to do something interesting that fits the music.
- Salsa Redefined--Learn to move with intent. Gain authentic Latin movement as opposed to sterilized sensuality. Understand the role and impact of balance/counterbalance in salsa. Learn to move in such a way so that you get the same ab workout as 3000 oblique crunches just by dancing one night.
These classes are dynamic and non-sequential, meaning that some of the above aspects will be in both classes depending on the learning flow of the students, yet the turn patterns covered in each class will be different.
The first class, "Salsa Verde," will be held from 3-4 PM and "Salsa Roja" from 4-5 PM.
Each class is $15 per person; however if you choose to take the full workshop (2 classes), then the cost is ONLY $25.
Partners are not required.
Remember, space is limited. To reserve your spot, please contact Zabor Dance either by phone at (434) 227-1709 or by email at [email protected].
