Doors Open at 6.15pm kick starting the evening with our total Beginners class which will be a 45 minute class with Magda. if you've never tried Salsa before then here is your chance to give it a go. At 7.15pm we have our main class for improver/intermediate level. We can't wait to see Magda up north for the very first time, widely sought after teacher we feel very lucky to catch her as she is always teaching all over the world these days. Our Social dancing will start straight after right through till 1am, so get your dancing shoes ready for our first party of the year with the tremendous DJ Lubi , aka Don Lubi, one of the Norths best DJs, especially in the Cuban world, but he will be delivering some of the best Mambo tracks this time, we can't wait to hear him play and really looking forward to filling that dancefloor. Our first event of the year folks is tomorrow night 8th January in Wakefield. opening our doors at 6.15pm at Crigglestone Club. Our Fabulous teacher for our event 8th January is Magda she is a renowned UK and international Latin dance teacher, performer and social dancer. Born and raised in Poland, Magda started her dance journey as a street dancer, taking part in numerous competitions, TV programs and shows across Europe as well as training in Ballroom and Musical Theatre. In 2004 Magda discovered a passion for Latin dance, training and performing with a number of world class international instructors. She took part in Adolfo Indacochea and Tania Cannarsa’s student team in London, as well as honing her performance skills under the wings of Terry and Cecile. In 2011, she started performing in the UK and around the world with professional Latin dance company OtraDanz, and continued over eight years until 2019. Magda started teaching in 2007 and quickly acquired a reputation as a skilled instructor thanks to a clear approach that balances strong technique and elegant styling with a focus on having fun. She aims to invest in her students’ growth, adapting to their individual learning styles and guiding them in their dance journey on and off the dancefloor. With her unique style and passion for the dance, she has also established herself as a strong social dancer – one of the few female Latin dancers to teach and social dance as a leader and follower. Today, Magda is Head of partner dance at City Academy in London, alongside a number of teaching and performing initiatives. She is also a regular artist at international festivals including Berlin, Marrakech, Fujairah, Luxemburg, Greece and Amsterdam. First time up North, and we are very excited to welcome her. Total beginners class will be with Magda at 6.15pm ( absolute beginners, no experience necessary, its great fun learning how to dance, very addictive but we want to share our love for dance with you all in Wakefield every month, and then the main class at 7.15pm for improver and intermediate level. Followed by a night of incredible social dancing with DJ Lubi at the decks, so excited to see him. DJ Lubi (Lubi Jovanovic) is one of the UK’s best known salsa and Latin music DJs both at home and abroad. He is also a long time jazz/soul/funk/world music DJ and live music promoter. His career spans over 35 years working in all aspects of the business – international DJ, live music promoter, club promoter, radio presenter, record label PR and CD compiler. He began in 1982 spinning Mongo Santamaria/Tito Puente/Art Blakey/Tania Maria records in Bradford in the north of England as part of the UK jazzdance movement – hard bop, jazz fusion, samba batucada and mambo – and was soon running weekly sessions in the city including The Jazz Cellar (a DJ and live band night) and Wild Style (two floors – one rap/electro, the other jazz/Latin – breakers and jazz hoofers battling it out under one roof). By 1986, he was promoting his first salsa clubnight, Club Afro Latino in Leeds, one of the earliest outside London, plus guesting as a DJ across the country, playing bass in local jazz groups and leading his own Latin jazz bands. In the 1980s, DJ Lubi was also a working musician. Last time Lubi and I worked together was when we put on the biggest event up North at Unity works, “ Rumberos”, with 550 attendees that was an awesome memory, we can't wait to make many more memories. hope to see you all tomorrow in Wakefield…..
