About this Event

Within the frame of Salt Spring Contact Improvisation Summer Plunge, we are excited to present a weeklong Intensive Training with Martin Keogh and Alicia Grayson From June 13th to June 19th 2019 https://www.contactimprovisationsaltspring.com/plunge-intensive Workshop Description: Waves, Swells, and Undercurrents With Martin Keogh and Alicia Grayson While we master more of the skills and thrills of the contact form, we will explore the many currents, ripples and patterns available in our sea of perception. Alicia Grayson and Martin Keogh team up to bring their 20-year dance collaboration to this week-long intensive investigation. We will draw from some of the CI solo practices: developmental movement, Body Mind Centering, yoga, pilates and principles and images from the natural world. From this grounded base we research the dynamics and nuances of Contact Improvisation. We will experience how the co-creativity of the form is exponentially amplified when each person is anchored in their own embodiment. We will explore: o Moving from a base of sensation o Dancing with a shared central axis o Seeking ease in going off balance o Finding the spontaneous acrobatics of the form o Spending more time in nuance, disorientation, and extended follow-through We will research, learn and dance together six hours a day. Other activities include jams, potlucks, and spontaneous surprises. We want to get to know you—your treasures, your idiosyncrasies, your distinctive pathways into contact improvisation. *Level: This workshop is for those actively researching Contact Improvisation. It is for dancers who are comfortable using their hands as landing gear and who have a sense of moving into their backspace. Hence, this intensive is for those with a solid grasp of Contact fundamentals. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The format: • Three days of investigation and dancing from 10am- 4:30pm • One day for rest for integration and laundry (June 16th) • Three more days to deepen the material ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Martin's teaching history and website is here: http://martinkeogh.com/my-story/ Alicia Grayson's Bio Alicia has been passionately involved with dancing, teaching and performing Contact Improvisation for the past 30 years.
