Samba Bateria Workshop with Francisco Marques

It's time to celebrate CARNAVAL! Francisco is back in town this month to teach our alunas and alunos more about the Samba Bateria with live drumming. Join our comunidade & learn how to play samba percussive instruments from the Brazilian Batería in a fun and encouraging 2 hour group class. All experience levels are welcome! We will start class with a few mind/body connection exercises that will help us internalize a few rhythms and then quickly move to the basics of each samba batería drum & instrument including: the tamborim, agogô, caixa, repique, chocalho and of course surdos. Students will learn how to hold and play of each instrument, how to produce the sound, their fundamental rhythms and role in the batería and see how they work together to create the different grooves of samba. No experience necessary and drums provided (if you own a samba drum, please bring it to the workshop).
