About this Event
SANKOFA - Seeing the past, building the future.
The concept of Sankofa (Sanko = to return; fa = to seek, to bring) originates from a traditional proverb among the Akan-speaking peoples of West Africa, in Ghana, Togo and Ivory Coast. In Akan “se wo were fi na wosan kofa a yenki” which can be translated as “it is not taboo to go back and get what you forgot”. As an Adinkra symbol, Sankofa can be represented as a mythical bird that flies forward, having its head turned back and carrying in its beak an egg, the future.
And it's thinking about our need for awareness of our history and culture that I, Hudson Alexandre invite everyone to these 4 meetings that I believe can greatly enrich your dance and conscience.
More than dance techniques, you will learn about ancestry, belonging and resistance based on facts!
We will revisit some ancestral points in the history of Brazil (from a racial perspective), and we will discuss topics such as: the self-esteem of black people in dance, representation and opportunities, structural racism in dance, lambada: Afro-Brazilian dance and much more!!
More than dancing, we will sharpen our critical sense about everything we see and what we want for our dancing community in the future and in the present.
There will be 4 lives, with 1 hour each
