Event Series
Saturday Afternoon Dance Wave at Durham Friends
This event is part of a series.
About this Event
As part of our continuing series of occasional Saturday dances.
Laura Aliberti will be weaving this set.
For those new to this form of dance see the description on page bottom.
For the experienced Ecstaticim we will have sets similar to the other with a minimalist opening and closing. We are dividing them with Laura, myself, Jack Wolf, and Richard Jerram who taught 5 Rhythms for years in the UK and US. Both myself and Richard are members of Quaker Meeting and hope to get some of our Quaker brethren quaking.
Due to prior scheduled events it is hard to get a regular rotation, but we now have reserves for Aug 29 Sept. 12 and 26 Oct 3 and 31 and Nov 14 and 28
Please come by 4.
Schedule will be:
4:00 Gather
4:10 Circle Up
4:15 Dance
5:45 Final Circle
5:50 Socialize
6:00 Close Up.
No fee, but we will accept donations to cover the rent only.
There is a parking lot shared between Durham Friends and the Ronald McDonald House on Alexander. Park in the spots reserved for DFM. The lot labelled Duke Police across the street can be parked in on the left side which is not used by the police and there is some parking on the Street
For those new to this form of dance:
Our dances are 90 minutes of improvisational unstructured dance to recorded music designed to create a deep free experience. There is no particular step or skill needed, just a chance to move the body and free the mind. People should abstain from conversation during the dance. Chairs will be there and one need not exert beyond your level of comfort and ability.
These types of dances occur internationally and were largely inspired by the late Gabrielle Roth and her 5 Rhythms concept (https://www.5rhythms.com/ ), though it will be up to the designer of each set and the dancers how strictly they wish to adhere to 5 Rhythms concepts. It can be a useful model.
