About this Event
Alex Guilbert has been part of the Seattle Jazz scene for decades, performing and recording with some of the Northwest’s finest musicians. His interest in early Jazz was cultivated as a member of Holotradband, a 7 piece traditional jazz band that had a 10 year weekly residency at the storied New Orleans Creole Restaurant in Pioneer Square. His familiarity with the swing and early Jazz repertoire has made him a perfect fit for dance events, which he plays for frequently, both as a leader and sideman.
This event will be celebrating 100 years since the opening of the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, NY: One of the first major, racially integrated public spaces in the United States, and core to the popularization of Lindy Hop.
Lindy Hop is one of the original Swing dances, made famous in the ballrooms of Harlem. Danced to a wide range of tempos, the music is traditionally big band Swing from the golden era of Jazz. Improvisation and rhythmical play are tied to Lindy Hop’s styling and spirit.
