Second Sun Rising: A Fusion Dance

We're most pleased to introduce Boston's new monthly fusion dance, Second Sun Rising. With movement rooted in the blues tradition but borrowing from many other styles, and music ranging wherever our DJs can convince us to go, the appeal is broad and the mood adventurous. For our premiere, we've been lucky enough to book Ruth and Mike as both instructors and DJs. These two are known for their joyous exuberance, fantastic metaphors, and multilayered accessible teaching style. Their official bios are at http://ruthandmike.com/?page_id=2, but it suffices to say that between them they've taught on three continents, trained in at least six dance and movement forms, and started one of the most prominent fusion/alt partner dance weeklies in the U.S. Ain't no one more suited to start us off right. The all-levels lesson will start at 7 p.m. and focus on dancing to lyrical music. Open social dancing will run from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. sharp, with a set break for announcements in the middle. Entrance is $17 for the dance and the lesson, $15 for students and low income. Dance-only prices are $12 regular, $10 students / low income. Cash only. Volunteer opportunities will be available. We'd like to be kind to the environment, so please bring a reusable water container. Plastic cups will be available for $1 each if you require them. Our venue is Extreme Dancesport, located a short walk from the Alewife T station, near the 78 bus line from Harvard Square, with some parking available onsite (but watch out for spaces dedicated to Enterprise Car Rental drop-offs and avoid using Evolve Fitness's lot next door).
