Dança Ma Mi Kizomba is an organization focusing on the growth of Kizomba not only in the Greater Houston Area but across the USA. DMMK has organized Kizomba and Semba weekend workshops with national and international instructors since 2013. They both have instructed workshops in USA, Mexico and Singapore and are currently holding a weekly kizomba/semba class in Houston, TX. Additionally, Eric and Karla organize Tabanka Texas, the most successful monthly Kizomba party in Texas. In May of 2015, they celebrated the one year anniversary of Tabanka Texas by organizing the first annual Tabanka Texas Dancefest 2015 holding the best parties with talented DJs and superb kizomba, semba, afrohouse and soukous workshops by national and international instructors. Tabanka Texas Dancefest 2016 promises to be even better during Memorial Weekend in Houston, TX. ------- Originating from Atlanta, Georgia, Eric Fitzgerald, known as DJ EFx on the Afro-Latin dance scene, began his dance journey in 2008. His passion for dance became more serious in 2011 when began traveling across the globe attending international dance festivals. He is recognized as a pioneer for Kizomba to the Latin dance scene within Texas. In an effort to nourish the growth of Kizomba, DJ EFx began his mark as a Kizomba DJ in the fall of 2012. Since then, he has entertained crowds throughout Texas and across the nation, from DC to Atlanta to Las Vegas, all while injecting his love and passion for Kizomba and Zouk music into listeners and dancers on the Afro-Latin scene. ------ Karla Villarreal was born and raised in Mexico and it wasn’t until 2002 that she moved to Houston, TX. Karla’s parents always encouraged and supported her passion for dance since she was 5 years old. Since then, dancing has been an important part of her life and happily has not stopped learning about this beautiful art. Recognized for her vigorous personality and passionate dancer, her background includes ballet, jazz, hip-hop, belly dancing, various Latin dances and of course kizomba, semba and afrohouse. She danced her first kizomba back in 2012 and since then, she has traveled within the US, Europe and Asia to develop her dancing skill as well as sharing her knowledge to those that love to dance. ------ Eric and Karla competed in the 2015 national eliminatory round of the world famous competition Africadancar placing 2nd in the USA round and continued their adventure by competing in the international qualifications held in Lisbon, Portugal as one of three couples representing the USA.
