About this Event
Learn this fast, fun swing dance and join the Shag Pile!
Collegiate Shag was the most popular swing dance of the 1920s - and it's the '20s again, and it's on the rise again!
Each week works as a stand-alone drop-in class, starting from zero, so whether you’re a fledgling, improver, or expert, our focus on the essential elements allows you to both hone the basics and build a repertoire of useful moves ready for the dance floor.
Our smooth learning curve means you can keep going for one or two hours as you prefer. No partner required - just rock up. Please be ready to dance from 7pm, with flexible flat-soled shoes, comfortable clothes for aerobic exercise, and a bottle of water.
Alongside simple instruction, each week we look at the music and musicians that inspired the original African American Shag dancers - and each week we end the evening with refreshments and chat at a nearby pub so we can get to know one another.
Shag is a partnered dance, but you don't need to bring anyone - just roll up and rock out! The dance is quite aerobic, so please bring flexible flat soled shoes for your comfort. Water and WCs are available in the venue.
Note: latecomers can disrupt class, so may not be admitted.
