West Coast Swing is their passion in common. They love to create and challenge themselves in new directions with the music and with each other. Together and with other partners they earned their Champion status in a variety of categories, Showcase, Classic, Strictly Swing and Jack & Jill. They are both inductees into the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame, and Sharlot in the World Swing Dance Council Hall of Fame. In late 2008 Mark and Sharlot partnered exclusively to compete in Strictly Swings. Together they created a new and unique style and signature moves. Sharlot and Mark assume multiple roles at the Nation’s Top Swing Dance Events, local events, and abroad; including, Workshops, Judging and Chief Judging, Referee, Exhibition, Intensives, and Private Instruction. They are a powerful team on and off the dance floor who bring years of experience, knowledge, and history to the swing dance community. They are respected as leaders and admired as dancers. Driven and passionate about West Coast Swing, their desire is to preserve its integrity, foundation and history while embracing its new directions. Sharlot is driven by her passion for dance, her love of music, and complete affection for the power and physicality of movement. Others have described her style as “timeless and inspirational.” As a Professional West Coast Swing Champion Dancer, Teacher, and Community Leader she commonly wears different hats; teaching workshops, judging, coaching students, competing, social dancing, dj-ing, and enjoying friends. On this dance journey she is fortunate and grateful to have amazing and gifted teachers, inspirational mentors, talented partners and community support. Her desire is to maintain the foundation and integrity of West Coast Swing while embracing its growth and new directions. Some of her honors include multiple National Titles in Showcase, Classic, Champion Strictly Swing, and Champion Jack and Jill competitions. She is a recognized Inductee into the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame, World Swing Dance Council Hall of Fame, recipient of the “Feather Award” and “Walk of Legends Award”. She was a featured aerialist in the movie “Shout”. Sharlot is an original US OPEN investor and shareholder, she served as a member of its Board of Directors from 2002 to April of 2009 giving their heart, ideas, wisdom, and skills. Today she serves on the NASDE Board of Directors as the US OPEN representative. She also serves on the Board of Directors as Vice President for the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame. One of the most popular social male leaders on the floor, Mark’s ability to lead and make his followers elevate their dance is a skill like no other. Mark enjoys dancing with everyone; all levels, sizes, and ages. Followers look for Mark when they want to dance with abandon and or move in ways they didn’t know was possible or simply have a nice dance with a nice man. It’s no wonder he received a “People’s Choice” award as favorite social dancer. For the past 2 plus decades Mark has been an active competitor, winning and placing in Jack and Jill’s, Strictly Swings, Classic, and Showcase competitions. Mark’s experience in weight support moves, lifts, leverage, partnering, and his keen eye for detail earned him much respect in the West Coast Swing community. In 2008, he began to act as “Rules” Referee and continues the role today. He serves as Judge and Chief Judge at multiple events. Mark served on the Board of Directors of the World Swing Dance Council from 2015 to 2019, making positive changes in the organization. He continues to prove himself as an “invaluable” player and leader in our swing dancing community. Mark is highly respected by dancers for his knowledge, experience and integrity. Workshop- $10 Doors open at 1:00 for Registration & Warm-up Dance Admission: Members - $10 Non-Members - $15 Yearly Membership - $35 Dance starts at 2:30 with DJ Vinh Mines San Diego Swing Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of West Coast Swing dancing that was formed back in 1970. The longest running WCS Club that just celebrated our 52nd Anniversary. MUSIC FORMAT: San Diego Swing Dance Club plays predominately 70% West Coast Swing and a 30% mix of Country 2 Step, Nightclub 2 Step, Waltz, Cha Cha, Hustle, etc. DJs are receptive to request.
