Shim Sham at The 9:20 Special

We're kicking off our virtual classes with the Shim Sham! Kirk Tarou and Iris Dolowitz Tarou will be teaching it from their kitchen and they can't wait to dance with you. <3 It's free! While the class is free, we're asking for donations to our PayPal account at [email protected] or Venmo at @iristarou. The donations will go toward The 9:20 Special on-going operating costs, staff, and instructors. If you can't pay, no problem at all! If you can, anything is appreciated - $20, $15, $10, $5, $2...whatever is comfortable for you. The Shim Sham is the solo line dance done regularly at The 9:20 Special social dance - and at Lindy Hop events across the globe! Originally a tap routine created in the 20s then transformed into a non-tap routine in the 30s when musicians, other dancers, and audience members started joining in. This is a dance that connects the Lindy Hop global community and we can't wait to share and dance it with you! We've decided to do this through Zoom so it can be more like a cohesive class with two-way communication and two-way video. We'll record the classes and share after as well. We also want this to feel like a Thursday at The 9:20 as much as possible so we'd love to do birthday shoutouts for anyone celebrating a birthday this week (or the past two weeks).
