About this Event
Join us next month for a special class to learn the Shim Sham. Never heard of it? It's that thing we all do when that one song comes on at the end of the monthly Social. At Boogie Down South, get ready to join 200 people on the floor in one massive dance!
Lindsey will be walking you through the basics of the routine from the ground up. This is a beginner friendly workshop, welcome to all levels - from those who've never tried the Shim Sham before to those feeling rusty and needed a little refresh.
What's the Shim Sham?
It's that thing you see everyone run onto the dance floor to do to that one song (you know the one!) - but to be a bit clearer than that, the Shim Sham is Lindy Hop's favourite Line Dance, adapted from what was originally a tap dance routine from the 1920s. Leonard Reed and Willie Bryant invented the routine as the finale to a tap routine.
Fast forward, Frankie Manning (famous Lindy Hopper, and often called the Father of Lindy Hop) adapted the routine to make it a little more Lindy and a little less tap - and this is the version you often see us dancing along to "Tain't What You Do".
