Shimmytown Shufflers (Balboa Team) Audition

The Shimmytown Shufflers Balboa choreography team is back for another season! Carissa Koo and Tor Helmer will be choreographing the routine and coaching the team. The team level will not be set until after the audition, so that we can ensure everybody has a chance to be seen. You must attend the audition or submit an audition video if you wish to be participate. Season 1 performance - Swinging at the Savoy (2018): https://youtu.be/b4qkM-Yesqs Season 2 performance - Cat's Corner (2018: https://youtu.be/Mq4y3XfD-uo GOALS FOR THIS SEASON: - Perform a relatively short (1:30 to 2:00 minute song) choreography for several local performances - Focus on personalized coaching in intermediate-advanced balboa topics (moves, technique, variations) in a small group setting, through the process of learning the choreography - (Optional) Travel to and perform at a Balboa weekend event or Balboa exchange on the West Coast. This will be for social performance only -- no competitions and not at Camp Hollywood. ___________________________________ 💃 AUDITION DETAILS Date: Wednesday, March 20 Time: 8:00 PM - 9:15 PM Location: ODC, Chris Hellman Studio Address: 3153 17th Street, entrance on Shotwell Street, San Francisco, CA, 94110 (Across the street from the main ODC building) YOU MUST ARRIVE EARLY as somebody has to watch the door to let you in. Plan to be there 10 minutes early. Nobody will be watching the door once the audition begins at 8:00 PM. AUDITION FORMAT You will quickly learn 16x8 of choreo and run through it at low, medium, and high tempos (180, 210, 245). We’re expecting everyone to be able to dance comfortably at 180 and 210. You may be asked to social dance at these tempos as well You will rotate through partners during the audition. (You'll be able to choose your own partner if accepted to the team) Personal feedback will be provided as optional after the audition. We’d like you to get something out of learning this sequence and coming to the audition. Videos must be received by Wednesday, March 20. ___________________________________ 💃 TEAM PRACTICE DETAILS There will be approximately 14 mandatory practices, spread out over 2 hours a week practice blocks. The day of the week and time of practices is still TBD, dependent on team member schedules. This will be determined after the team roster has been finalized. The first practice will likely begin the week of April 1. We understand some of you may be at the Experiment during this time. If so, we will work to accommodate your schedules. The last practice will likely be the week of July 8. Each practice will include breaking down the choreography along with coaching in intermediate-advanced balboa topics. ___________________________________ 💃 PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE DETAILS There will be several mandatory local performances, schedule TBD dependent on team member schedules after the team roster is finalized. By joining the team, you are committing to performing at these local performances. There will be one optional non-local performance at a Balboa weekend event or Balboa exchange on the West Coast. This will be for social performance only -- no competitions and not at Camp Hollywood. The team had an amazing time traveling for a weekend event and performing last year, so we're bringing the option back! ___________________________________ 💃 PRICING DETAILS The cost for team dues is estimated to be between $80 to $90 a month per team member. Final cost will depend on the size of the team. This cost covers practice venue rental fees and coaching/choreography fees. That breaks down to about $20 to $23 for each 2 hour practice session, which we think is a great deal given the level of personalized instruction each team member will be receiving!
