In the before time, our fusion scene in DC was experimenting with an idea called "Fade." Fade is a dance approach created as a response to the growing demand for non-threatening closeness and connection (whether be physical, mental, creative, or a mixture) that has been showing itself in a number of social dance scenes such as fusion (especially micro), zouk, kizomba, blues, sensual bachata, among others. As an approach to social dancing, Fade is specifically designed to encourage a strong connection under the backdrop of emotional, meditative, evocative music. This workshop has two purposes: 1) To teach students fundamental micro dance technique that will help enable the creation of fade-style dances 2) To have students experience a full fade-style dance through micro-influenced storytelling This is an ideal workshop for anyone looking to learn/strengthen their micro game, and/or anyone who loves their melty dances. Schedule: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM: Micro technique 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM: Storytelling through fade 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM: Practica What is the cost? As a longtime professional dancer, he believes in the power of weight, frame, body control, etc. as a foundation, but also that the true power of partner dance is unlocked when that technique meets humanity. As partner dancers we seek to open ourselves to the music, to our partners, to create something unique and beautiful that reflects how both of us are feeling, and how the music makes us feel. Every single song out there is a new challenge, and a new opportunity. Every partner is a chance to strengthen your empathy. Falina - Falina just wants more people to have beautiful little micro dances. She’s been dancing for more than ten years now and considers fusion her base dance, even though she’s spent time with Blues, Lindy, Salsa and Bachata, and answers “a little bit” when asked about a pile of other social dances. She follows, leads, and switches socially, and thinks good micro dances transport you to a cozy little pocket dimension that more people should have access to. FAQ: What is the space like? For this workshop we are partnering with the amazing Stomping Ground LA - an inclusive community arts center that prides itself on being a safe and welcoming place to gather and create moving artistic experiences. We'll be in their Garage Studio, which has a sprung floor with black Marley. Parking? There is a gated parking lot that we ask be reserved for those who feel unsafe walking to a car parked further away. There is lots of street parking available for those who feel comfortable doing so.
