About this Event

Join us for a socially distanced workout dance class with Luz Rodriguez-Mercier, co-founder/director/lead instructor of DC Style Salsa Academy! We created a yummy Salsa dinner package for you to enjoy post-workout! The Salsa lesson will cover beginner solo footwork and will be held on the front outdoor patio of our restaurant. Tickets are $12 and masks are required during the lesson. Tickets can be bought here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/solo-salsa-saturday-tickets-125333619229 The Salsa dinner package will be 10% off for participants and includes some of our Latin favorites: the popular Havana sandwich, alfajores cookies, and a glass of our special Sangria Helada or Argentinian Malbec wine. Luz Rodriguez-Mercier was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico and often moved around the world as a child during her mother’s military career. She has trained in salsa, folkloric bomba, jazz, modern, and hip hop dance. Wanting to reconnect with her Puerto Rican roots, Luz turned to Latin music and dance after college. Soon after rediscovering salsa, she started performing on local dance teams in her then-hometown of Atlanta. In 2006 she moved to Washington, DC to pursue a professional dance career. As a former principal dancer and instructor of the ClaveKazi Dance Company, she performed at global events in over 35 cities in Europe, Asia, Caribbean and the Americas. In 2012, Luz co-founded the DC Style Salsa Academy with Jimmy Yoon, with the goal of codifying, preserving, and promoting the unique On2 salsa style born in the DC dance scene. Now a veteran performer and instructor, Luz enjoys teaching salsa to the DC community and connecting with fellow dancers throughout the world whenever possible.
