The Institute for the Study of Somatic Communication (ISSC), directed by Nita Little, PhD and Amanda Concha-Holmes, PhD, is offering a special workshop in Contact Improvisation and somatic communication right here in Gainesville! Join us for this fantastic oppotunity to take an in-depth exploration of Contact Improvisation with one of its core developers, Nita Little. Class description: A Touch of Presence // Somatic Communication in Motion Bringing theory into practice we extend a felt understanding of self through movement. Presence can be sensed long before any contact with the skin. When someone is watching us, we can feel the tactile pressure of their attention. The dance of contact conveys an impression long after the physical touch has left. Raising somatic communication skills in this sensorial realm of body-mind-world (otherwise known as self) improves relations in the practice of massage, dance and life. In this four-hour workshop we will join ensemble dancing with contact improvisation through concept building, skills training, movement research and somatic communication exercises.
