Special Argentine Tango Workshop: Co-creating through the Freedom of Timing with Brigitta Winkler

Argentine Tango offers a unique Freedom in the way we relate to time. Unlike dances based on a fixed rhythm, Tango Music contains multiple rhythmic layers, textures and voices. This gives Dancers countless possibilities choosing why, how, and when to move. Part 1: 2pm-3:15pm In this workshop, we explore classical movement patterns through polyrhythms within the relationship of a couple. We study how these patterns unfold in space and time, discovering the unique dynamics they create between partners. Through the practice of embodied awareness, we experience how different rhythms and timings can coexist within a partnership. By cultivating attentive listening, we learn to recognize these possibilities and choose when to express them as an interpretation of the music, allowing the dance to become a living dialogue between partners and sound. Part 2: 3:30pm-4:45pm We expand the concept of timing beyond a set of rules, embracing it instead as a creative field of interaction where both partners continuously play off one another. By cultivating timing agency and timing freedom for both partners, we open the door to exquisite co-creation, musicality, and joy. The dance becomes a living conversation in which both partners actively contribute to a shared musical and kinetic experience. Rather than simply following predetermined patterns, we learn to listen, respond, and shape the dance together in real time.
