About this Event

Roc Kizomba is so happy to present Rachel Cassandra from DC! She will be teaching two workshops in place of our regularly scheduled Classes on Dec 7th! 10$ per class! First Class: 6:30 About Face! Fun with Pivots So many of the effortless moves you’ve admired in modern kizomba are based in perfect pivot technique. Get the movement, leading and following figured out, then learn a few steps that depend on them. You’ll be gliding on the floor in no time! Second Class:7:45 Playful Kizomba! Kizomba is all about the connection between you and your partner, and how you feel the music together. We often think of the sensual aspect of kizomba, but there are many times the music invites us to have fun! We’ll try out a few ways to be playful and musical together. Bio: Rachel Cassandra has been hooked on kizomba since she was first introduced in Jan 2011. After teaching with Nelson Campos across Europe in 2012 and 2013, Rachel returned home to New York and founded Kizomba Community, a free resource connecting people to kizomba all over the USA. She has been traveling on her own non-stop since early 2014, teaching in over 30 US cities as well as in Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia. Equipped with a teaching degree, Rachel is especially good at helping people fix their technique and at breaking down the "cool things" people see in videos but can never get to work right on the dance floor. While she loves following, Rachel is an advocate of gender equality. Not only does she teach leaders’ steps and technique, she also leads on the social floor. Be sure to ask her for a dance! Rachel has a varied dance background – she was once Moroccan salsa champion – but remains active in the blues dance community. She is also intermittently learning tango, West Coast Swing, and Brazilian Zouk. Get more information about her at www.rachelcassandra.com
