PARENT/STUDENT CATEGORY. Parents have been involved since the early years of this event and dance with their son/daughter to represent their school. The “parent” may be a parent, step-parent, or legal guardian. Together, they will dance to a 4 to a 5-minute mix of Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia, and other Latin dances selected by the DJ on the spot. JACK & JILL CATEGORY. This category consists of four student competitors per school, 2 males and 2 females who will be randomly paired with other schools the day at the competition backstage and they will dance to a mix of songs such as Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, ChaCha and other Latin rhythms selected by the DJ on the spot. Competitors must have preferably participated in other categories in order to participate in the Jack & Jill. The purpose is to determine the dancers who are best able to improvise and social dance without rehearsing and to just have fun and mix it up.
