Markus Rosendal (Sweden) and Moe Sakan (Japan) Sep Vermeersch (Belgium) Alexia Legouiex (Paris) Rob & Tina Swing Dance Leeds Martyn and Suzzanne (The Swing Era) Saturday 30th April Swingamajig - the UKs largest alternative vintage festival and The Swing Era - Birmingham's hottest swing dance school are coming together to run a day of workshops with a party in the evening in partnership with International Dance Festival Birmingham.Whether you are complete beginner or a seasoned dancer there is something for everyone, with 4 ability groups and internationally acclaimed teachers it is a fantastic opportunity to brush up your moves before heading to Swingamajig Festival. Tickets are priced just £20 for beginners/improvers with 3 hours of classes on the Saturday and then a social dance with a swing band in the evening. For Intermediate/advanced it is only £55 which along with the social includes extra classes on the Sunday morning too and a total of 6 hours teaching with some of the best teachers in the world! Classes will cover a mixture of lindy hop and solo jazz steps and will take place at the dance Xchange (next to the hippodrome in Birmingham). Afterwards we had to the Moseley dance centre from 21:00 until 01:00 for a party with an authentic 16 piece swing band, the Jim Wynn Swing Orchestra. The address for the classes is: The Dance Xchange, Thorp St, Birmingham B5 4TB The address for the social dance is: The Moseley Dance Centre 572-574 Moseley Rd, Birmingham B12 9AA Timings Beginners/improvers,(Saturday only) registration 14:00, classes start at 14:30 and finish at 18:30 Intermediate/advanced - (Saturday) registration at 13:00 clases start at 13:30 and finish at 18:30(Sunday classes start at 11:00 and and at 14:00) The Social Dance Will start at 21:00 and you can buy a ticket to just the dance if you prefer online (and we should have some available first come first served on the door too/ We strongly recommend everyone comes to Swingamajig Festival on the Sunday too and more info/tickets can be found at www.swingamajig.co.uk. Which ability level class should I join? Beginners If you have never danced before and fancy giving it a go, this is the class for you. The class will progress at a gentle pace and it is a lot of fun! Improvers If you took the beginners class last year of you have done a couple of swing dance taster classes then this is the one for you. Also this is a great class for anyone who has maybe never tried lindy hop before danced other styles, and finds it easy to pick things up, or complete beginners who fancy a challenge. Intermediate The intermediate class is for you if you are comfortable dancing 6 count and 8 count lindyhop and are familiar with moves such as swing outs, lindy circles and lindy turns. You can social dance and implement new moves you learn in your social dancing. Advanced If you are confident dancing at any tempo, adding variation and individual styling into your dancing and have had plenty of experience social dancing then this is the class for you. In this class we look at advanced techniques and is a great way to push your dancing to that next level. Lead or follow? Traditionally in Lindy Hop the Lead part is for guys, and the follow for gals, however you are totallyy free to dance whichever part you like and good dancers often learn both. You are welcome to sign up to dance which ever part you like, we will keep an eye on the numbers and make sure the classes are balenced so that when we rotate partners in class there are no long waits.
