About this Event

Has street Latin dancing made a positive impact on your life? Would you like to share your enthusiasm and passion for dancing with the rest of Brisbane so that they might become your future dance partners and they too benefit from this healthy pasttime? ** Update ** See below for the latest plan ** Here's the idea ** Let's meet up and walk around Brisbane. We will dance, outdoors, anywhere there are people. Let's show them Salsa, Bachata, Zouk and Kizomba. Let them see how much fun you're having as you freestyle (not choreographed). Everyone welcome. Students, teachers and staff of all schools welcome. Bring your promotional material. Wear your school's t-shirt if you like. Let's work together to raise the profile of Latin dancing in Brisbane. This "hobby" has such promise to positively impact lives. What if it eventually became ingrained in Brisbane's culture? ** Here's the plan - updated ** It's now just under 2 hours until we kick off Street Latin on the Streets! Here are the details you need. Please meet me at River Quay Green (the grassy "amphitheatre" near the Goodwill Bridge). Just follow the music :) Street Latin on the Streets is essentially a wandering flashmob of Latin dancers (you guys!). The purpose is just to enjoy your dancing so that not-yet-dancers might be inspired to try it :) Our wander will take us from River Quay Green, through South Bank, past the ferris wheel, across the bridge to the casino, to the mall, then to the Botanic Gardens, through QUT, over the Goodwill Bridge and will finish at Kangaroo Point cliffs (where there is an outdoor dance floor). *Note: this plan may update as necessary We will linger in some places longer than in others. In two key locations, which I'm not going to disclose, we will have no more than 5 minutes. In other locations we will be able to dance for as long as we want. Important times: 1:00pm Event starts with dancing on the grass 1:25pm GROUP PHOTO at River Quay Green 1:30pm We begin our journey (mostly dancing on street/pavement) Music that will be played: Salsa, Bachata, Zouk & Kizomba All updates during the day will be posted here on this Facebook event page so please keep your mobile phone on you for notifications. When we move from one location to another, that information will be posted here (so, if you lose the group, just check here). You do not have to attend the whole event. Just keep an eye on this event page to know where we are at any given time. Don't forget the GROUP PHOTO is at 1:25pm. Please be patient during the event. This has never been done before and there are a lot of you. We will all need to go-with-the-flow. Please be respectful of local buskers and businesses. Exercise normal common sense and take responsibility for your own safety. You will be outside so please dress appropriately and bring plenty of water. Weather: The Bureau of Meteorology predicts a 50% chance of showers in the afternoon. It might be a bit cloudy but we should be ok! Event organiser: My name is James and I am the founder/director of a Latin dance school called Dance Culture . Feel free to add me as a friend here on Facebook: James Quinn-Hawtin :)
