Subsuelo Sundays celebrates Brazil! Zuzuka Poderosa + DJ Potira

This Sunday we celebrate Brasil with Rio-bred, Brooklyn-based carioca bass pioneer ZUZUKA PODEROSA, Los Angeles samba royalty Nicolea Pettis + Amrahu, and the always exceptional DJ POTIRA 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 We're celebrating funk caroica, samba, forró and all kinds of Brazilian bass/trap/hiphop/house this Sunday outside on patio at Caña Rum Bar. All summer at Subsuelo, we're celebrating music from different countries that have inspired us in our lives. Last month, we celebrated Cuba y Puerto Rico, this month Brazil, next month Colombia y Venezuela, then Jamaica in August and finally Mexico in September. Subsuelo Sundays are free, 21+, and go from 3pm til 9pm. ZUZUKA PODEROSA is the queen warrior of her own special brand of Baile Funk: CARIOCA BASS. Born in Vitoria, Brazil, ZUZUKA grew up in Rio and spent her formative years in the West Indies in the Caribbean. She later moved to Brooklyn, New York to study jazz vocal improvisation and work at her poetry. For the past few years, she's been building up the underground Baile Funk, Moombahton and Global Bass scene in New York. She raps and sings in Portuguese, Spanish, English and she likes to say “Body Language”, musing provocatively and sarcastically over boomy electric kicks and Latin percussion. ZUZUKA makes CARIOCA BASS music. She has developed her own style, seamlessly blending anything from classic Hip-Hop beats wedged between Samba rhythms and Cuíca Drums to Electro and Indie Rock, sprinkled with the occasional Main Stream hit which she may even have remixed herself just for the occasion! Born in Rio de Janeiro to a Bossa Nova singer Mirene Alves, from a very early age, she would accompany her mother to performances throughout Rio. The exposure to the rich musical culture of Brazil, captured this young childs imagination and has had a significant influence on DJ Potiras musical evolution.
